Please HP, update this app to make it work the way it's advertised to. Judging by the number of 1-star reviews of this app, I'm far from alone.
The main features of this software include multi-page document scanning, automatic image detection, PDF file output, and text recognition (OCR). It supposedly has a function to do duplex scanning which I want to be able to use, and was a feature availabe on HP Deskjet printers in years past. HP Easy scan is a specifically designed HP scan software MAC to be used on HP scanners and multifunctional printers. Use the below steps to setup scan to email so users can scan.

I've encountered this on Mac OS Catalina and now Monterey (OS's 11 and 12). That way, it is very easy to have the scanned documents send to your mailbox as attachments.
Update: HP Printer Software 5.1 should now be becoming available through Software Update to fix this issue. Then add (+) your printer back and select the generic driver to use. Select your printer from the list then delete (-) it. Despite being able to connect wirelessly to my LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw, and print and do single side scans from HP Smart on my iPhone and my Mac, HP Easy Smart cannot find my printer, even after all of the reset and driver uninstall/reinstall directions provided. Go to System Preferences, select Printers and Scanners.
